Chatham Manor is actually located in Fredericksburg, VA, about an hour from Richmond, but it’s so worth the trip. Whether you’re planning your own family photos or you are a photographer yourself, deciding on a location can be a tough task, especially if you are considering someplace you have never visited before. Richmond has so many beautiful landscapes, filled with gardens, historical site, waterfronts and more, but here are my top 5 go-to , tried and true locations for Richmond family photo sessions. Location is so important to me as an artist, and my criteria for the ideal spot is based on a number of factors. I look for locations that are:

• Beauty
• Predictability
• Affordability
• Interesting for kids

Richmond Family Photo Session Locations – Chatham Manor

Chatham Manor – Fredericksburg

Located in the heart of Fredericksburg, Chatham Manor is a hidden gem right downtown. Constructed in 1771, it’s beautiful grounds made me feel as if I was stepping back in time. This session was done later afternoon in direct sunlight, and the early spring 1920s gardens were already thriving with gorgeous greens and blooms. The back of the house overlooks the river and the city of Fredericksburg as well. If you are in Richmond and looking to schedule your family photo session, you should definitely consider Chatham Manor. Some important things to note:

• This is a military park, and the grounds are open 9:00AM to 5:00PM. Be sire to check their website for updates before going. Their shorter hours of operation do not allow for sunrise or sunset sessions.
• There are restrooms in the building closest to the parking lot.
• The first floor of Chatham is a museum.
• The grounds are relatively flat and stroller friendy.
• Entry is free.
