Whether you’re planning your own family photos or you are a photographer yourself, deciding on a location can be a tough task, especially if you are considering someplace you have never visited before. Richmond has so many beautiful landscapes, filled with gardens, historical site, waterfronts and more, but here are my top 5 go-to , tried and true locations for Richmond family photo sessions. Location is so important to me as an artist, and my criteria for the ideal spot is based on a number of factors. I look for locations that are:

• Beautiful all year round
• Predictability
• Affordability
• Interesting for kids

Richmond Family Photo Sessions – Historic Tuckahoe

Historic Tuckahoe

Rich in history, and diverse in scenery, Historic Tuckahoe should definitely fall into your list of locations when considering where to have your family photos done. The grounds feature everything from sprawling fields, to quaint gardens and blooming trees, to gravel paths and white picket fences. Tuckahoe is open year round from 9:00am-5:00pm daily, unless they have previously scheduled events.

A few things to note about this venue:

• If you are hoping to visit before scheduling a session there, they do keep a calendar on their website so you can check to see if the grounds are open for exploring
• Self guided tours are a $5 donation (kids 3 and under are free!) and your donation can be placed in the white “Honor Box” located in the parking lot
• They offer house tours on Sundays, but check their website before you go, because they do not do this year-round
• Professional photo sessions and styled shoots need to be scheduled with them in advance and does require a fee
